Communication today.

Image
Social Media; texting ; etc...a blessing or a curse to communicating with others (originally March 2018) !! I think I  need to post every few months, not just for younger people, but for all people. Texting, emails, etc are not personal communications, no body language, facial communication, all one way... As usual there are two sides of the coin when discussing this topic; especially if you are a baby boomer or older, and then if you're a millennial or younger. As a baby boomer, social media has reconnected me with many from the past that I would never had connected with again. But, rather quickly you only stay in real contact with your true friends from that age. Real contact are phone calls,  face person to person meetings,  and discovering more about that person than simply how long they've been married, how may many kids, where they're living, or what is their profession. Yes, we're glad to see that others are doing well, not so glad when w...

Maria Shriver 60 Life Lessons for my Birthday....

Image
Maria Shriver has written many books I just finished this one. It is a very thought-provoking, reflecting,  meditating, prayerful book. I suggest the book to anyone. In one of the last chapters she wrote about 60 life lessons that she listed on her 60th birthday. A good list, I agree with most but not all I share with you. 1.There is nothing about life that’s predicable, so stop trying to predict it. Right on 2. Find every excuse you can to celebrate it. 3. Love the age you are and stop wishing you were a different one. yes..yes 4. Stop worrying about what others think. It’s a huge waste of your time. A life long lesson, easier said then done. I do know 5. Stop wondering if God is listening, just have faith He/She is.  Yes ! 6. Be grateful to anyone who has ever loved you or tried to love you. I know I am . I try 7. Know that shit will happen in life. You think you will not be able to withstand, but you can and you will. Yep 8. Be kind to your body, it will be wit...

Hand in Hand

Image
Reflection. Mark 5:21-24, 35b-43 Reflection. Hand in Hand: “He took the child by the hand…” Jesus doesn’t deny or reduce the value of our humanity. The Lord cherishes all that he created in our humanity, and he knows the pain Jairus and his wife experienced. Jesus gently reached out to touch Jarius’s daughter as he brought her back to life. He didn’t have to take her hand to work the miracle, but he preferred to touch her because he loved her. Jesus touches us daily through those he puts in our lives. The intimate touch of a spouse , the needy clinging of a child , the cuddle from a grandchild , or the affection of a colleague —these are ways that Jesus touches us every day. He also sometimes “touches us” in silent prayer .  Resolution: Lord, today by your grace I will entrust an area of my life that needs healing to your transformative touch. Amen. Love & forgiveness are the pillars of faith. The intimate touch, the clinging , the cuddle have all disappeared in my life. Those ...

Monday.....Happy Flag Day.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Flag Day was founded by a school teacher named Bernard J. Cigrand, who began observing the day with his class at Stony Hill School in Waubeka, Wisconsin. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation establishing June 14th as Flag Day on May 30, 1916

Forgiveness & Love, or Love & Forgiveness ? Yes, both

Image
Jesus answered, ' I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. ' " “You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you.” “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Watch this video.. FORGIVE THY ENEMY ?    It's worth your time 1 Peter 4:8 " Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins." 1 Corthinians 13:13 "So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." Finally, a good article for all ages. Can you ask for forgiveness ? Can you give Forgiveness ?  Read:  Forgiveness in the Family I have sinned sometimes causing harm to those I  love (d). It's very hard to swallow your pride, admit your wrongdoings and ask for forgiveness. Retribution is part of seeking forgiveness, because words with...

Naomi, good for you !! 👍🙏

Good for Naomi. Because unless you experienced the anxiety and depression that she has, you don't know. I repeat you don't know. The tennis officials are full of BS, when they say they don't want to give players an unfair advantage, it's about money and promotion. Remember Duane Thomas a 1970s star running back for the Dallas Cowboys, he never spoke to the press,  never . I dealt with depression, I went to work and did little more. I arrived to work barely by 8:00 a.m. . And out the door by 5:05 p.m. I came home, went to my room did little else. It took all my might and will to go to my daughter's High School graduation, her college graduation, to go to my daughter's basketball games, went to a niece's wedding talked to no one, went to Sunday Mass because my former wife forced me to,  didn't play any golf, didn't grow a garden, didn't go to YMCA,  etc etc.  I did what I had to do, work,  but little else. It sucked for everyone. Yes, some criticiz...

Prayer: Let the Shooting End

Image
Prayer: Let the Shooting End God, our hearts are broken with pain at the senseless deaths caused by gun violence. Families mourn, children live in fear, and some in our nation respond by arming themselves with more guns with greater capacity to end life. Our disconnection and alienation has caused some to turn to guns for protection and safety. We ask that you touch our hearts with your love, heal our brokenness, and turn us away from violence toward peace. Help us to transform our own hearts and to seek peaceful ways of resolving our differences. Let our hands reach out and connect with those who feel alone, those who live in fear, and those suffering from mental illness. Let our voices be raised asking our legislators to enact gun laws to protect all in our society, especially those most vulnerable. Let our pens write messages demanding change while also scripting words of hope and transformation. We ask this in the name of the God who desires that we live together in pea...

Want to lead a happy life ?

Want to lead a happy life ?   After experiencing some troubling times in life, and with wisdom that comes with age, I say this list is very worthwhile to incorporate in your life. 1. Make little changes in your daily routine, such as getting more sleep, exercising, getting out into nature, and meditating. ✔ 2. Read more books. Read books to learn—research suggests that lifelong learners remain healthy and engaged, and live long lives. Read books as an escape from your everyday life, Read books—it will make you happy. ✔ 3. Find your right fit or match, both personally and professionally. If you love what you do and who you are with, you’ll position yourself for personal happiness and professional success. SO TRUE !! 4. Be grateful. Sanderson suggested two specific activities to help foster a greater sense of gratitude. First, keep a daily gratitude journal. Second, pay a “gratitude visit” to someone from your past who has had a significant impact on your life, and let them know how ...

College should be safe , very safe 😥😥🙏🙏

Image
Untimely sad deaths of two young men, with tons of life ahead & unlimited potential, FOUR years apart, not tragic accidents, but left to die by their fellow classmates, friends ???  FRATERNITY COLLEGE HAZING . How was Stone allowed to die four years after Tim ?  Colleges, college presidents, fraternities are ALL RESPONSIBLE to allow such criminal acts to continue. Upsetting to me, but I cannot even phantom how the Piazzas and Foltzs deal with this every day. Honor these lost young men by reading their obituaries, pray for their families. Google their names to educate yourself more if you're not aware of the incidents. Makes me sick, angry, disgusted. Timothy Piazza , age 19, of Lebanon, N.J., died at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey after a tragic accident on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Born in Edison, N.J., he was the loving son of James and Evelyn Piazza. Tim had resided in Readington Township his whole life. He was a graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High Sc...

Too True, Too Often

Image
Too True, Too Often   Too often we don't realize What we have until it is gone Too often we wait too late to say "I'm sorry - I was wrong."   Sometimes it seems we hurt the ones We hold dearest to our hearts And we allow foolish things  To tear our lives apart.   Far too many times we let Unimportant things into our minds And then it's usually too late To see what made us blind.   So be sure that you let people know How much they mean to you Take that time to say the words Before your time is through.   Be sure that you appreciate Everything you've got And be thankful for the little things in life that mean a lot. - Author Unknown Remember Me: To the living, I am gone. To the sorrowful, I will never return. To the angry, I was cheated, But to the happy, I am at peace, And to the faithful, I have never left. I cannot be seen, but I can be heard. So as you stand upon a shore, gazing at a beautiful sea - remember me. As you look in awe ...

Gotta be thankful for all of it...🙏✝️😆❤️👍👌🤗

A tribute to Dad ..(1935 - 2012)

Image
"The Value of a man is not measured by what he does for himself to make his life easier, But, measured by what he does for others to make their lives easier." Eric E. Thomas Remembering Dad from his funeral & burial from 9 years ago. When a person dies, it isn't the cars they drove, nor the wealth they accumulated, nor the buildings they owned, etc. It's the family they were part of, and the friendships forged that can best sum up a man's life.  Many, many of Anthony J. Schmitt Jr.'s family & friends paid tribute 9 years ago, either with cards, phone calls, visits to  White's funeral home, or at his funeral Mass ✝️🙏 at St Kilians RC Church in Farmingdale, NY. I was touched by & will always value those who took the time to acknowledge Dad's life. Also, I will always  value my personal friends, from elementary school, from high school, from college, my former work colleagues, and my friends from everyday life who also paid tribute to my fath...
