This Independence Day, let’s recommit our nation, and ourselves, to liberty and justice for all. May the next 250 years be dedicated to peace and the common good! May the Sacred Heart of Jesus and His Immaculate Mother inspire us to protect the human dignity of all God’s people.

Some of you I've known since the 1960s, others we met during the 1970s at high-school, college, or some other social relationships. The 1980s at work, or an outreach from my marriage, church, and same onto the 1990s, 2000s, & some over the past decade. 

Tom Kean is a brave brave man. Our country has come a long way since the way Senator Thomas Eagleton was treated in 1972. Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt , two of our greatest Presidents dealt with depression during their presidency, but then they didn't know & of course it was all secretive. 
You all know people in your families, circle of friends who battle depression. It's always there, always. 
Initially we (wife & I ) told no one except some family. Even those people were not accepting. I never skipped work, I traveled out of town for work to Boston, Chicago, Buffalo, NH, MA....via airplane, car, alone, hotels, I was operating on autopilot. Its unknown to me how I did it. 
I attended family funerals, weddings, drove 900 miles to go on a family vacation (it sucked, I was emotionless). I attended hs & college graduations (hardly cheered or smiled) , took kids to college & moved them in. No golf, little socializing, interviewed for a new job, started new job, took a 4 week health leave. No one knew, got very little sympathy because no one new. Kean is right, it you haven't lived it, you don't know don't know.

I've talked to you many about it, many of you have helped. Thank you.

New Jersey Congressman Tom Kean revealed his battle with severe depression, explaining his four-month absence from Congress. Kean, now back and healthier, emphasized the importance of seeking help and plans to run for reelection in a competitive district against Democrat Rebecca Bennett.

My family, my extended family, &  I, seemed to be snake bitten in the early 2000 years with cancer. In April 2000, my mother was diagnosed with leukemia. Mom battled but she died in March of 2001. At the beginning of 2002 in January, my father-in-law Stu Alexander was diagnosed with melanoma. Stu died six months later in June. Also, I began enduring some health problems of my own during the beginning of 2002, rheumatoid arthritis and some mental health issues. They were difficult back then, and have proven to be more than one time episodes. 🙏 🙏🏿  Okay, we thought those years are behind us, but in March of 2003 my youngest daughter, Lauren, 13, was diagnosed with a cancer and a tumor growth on her left hip. It was going to require radiation, surgery, and possibly chemotherapy.
