1991 Merry Christmas & A Perfect Marriage

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

1991 SCHMITT NEWSLETTER

As the year is quickly coming to a close, we'll try to update you with the news at the Schmitt household in 1991.We guess the first and biggest news of 1991 is that Rochester was hit with a major ice storm in early March. It was an experience that will not soon be forgotten. The weekend was spent celebrating Kristen's third birthday (yes, respectfully & with love,  Grandma & Grandpa S came for the weekend ). The rain began falling Sunday evening with freezing temperatures, perfect conditions for an ICE STORM. The sounds in the middle of the night were unforgettable as trees and branches were snapping and crashing all round the house. Looking out the windows was a sight as there was ice and branches down everywhere. There were no lights as most of Rochester was without electric. We were lucky as we received electric back after three long days but, many people were without for up to ten days.

The storm didn't cause any  major damage to our house but, it did prompt us into selling our house, and moving into a new house without a septic system. We sold our house, and bought a new house 3 miles away within a month's time.

In April,Linda and Tony were able to sneak in a vacation to California while Tony was out in CA. on a business trip. We were based in Long Beach , and visited Disneyland & Universal Studios.

We moved into a new home during June, just in time to escape the summer heat with a dip in the pool.

Kristen & Lauren love our new house,  it also has a big swingset in the back. There is plenty of room for visitors.

Linda was surprised with a thirty some thรฌng birthday party in September. Tony and, tht girls pulled off the surprise over Linda ( was I a thoughtful husband ? )

Actually, it was a payback for the surprise given to Tony on his 30th birthday.

Kristen is now attending BOCES preschool for speech therapy,  five mornings a week. She is making outstanding progress in improving her speech. Lauren keeps us entertained with the reciting of the ABC's and she loves to color in her coloring books. Lauren & Kristen go to a day care center 3 days a week when Linda goes to work at Strong in the Cardiac Rehab Center. Tony is still working at Computer Consoles (CCI) as a finance manager. Linda and Tony were elected to the Parish Council at St. Paul's in Webster ( live your faith, not only in good times ). This is a fulfilling and worthwhile activity.

Kristen and Lauren are both growing by leaps and bounds. Lauren, who turned two in November, is always trying to keep up with her big  sister. Kristen enjoys having someone to boss around.

Our spare time is spent mostly playing with the girls although, Tony still manages to squeeze in a round or two of golf during the nice weather seasons. He still jogs fairly regularly to maintain his great physique (HAIHA!).

Linda works outside the home (OK for you house Moms) three days a week and is home the other two weekdays. She is room Mom for Kristen's class. Sewing, waฤบlpapering, baking or something other domestic hobby occupies some of her time. Isn't double bogeying three holes in a row more fun?

Both of our families are doing well. Tony's Dad had a heart attack in May. He seems to have recovered from. He is still farming although, if you make him a decent offer for some farmland on L.I., he won't turn you down. Linda's parents are becoming veteran RV travellers and golfers in their retirement.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy 1992! Tony, Linda,  Kristen,  & Lauren ¹

So many forget..

DID I REALLY TRANSFORM FROM A LOVING HUSBAND & FATHER TO AN EVIL BEING, HATED BY THOSE WHO I SHARED CHRISTMAS WITH ?

“Don't give up, don't ever give up. “ - Jim Valvano ( inclusive of marriages)

To this day, the Catholic Church doesn't recognize divorce, citing Jesus in Matthew 19 saying that having other relationships after a divorce (except in the case of "sexual immorality") is always adultery: "'Haven't you read,' [Jesus] replied, 'that at the beginning the Creator "made them male and female," and said, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh"? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.'" In this sense, God is basically the third "person" in the marriage, and the only person authorized to undo it. Unless you're Henry VIII, in which case you just create a whole religion to allow yourself to divorce and remarry (several times, if necessary).

A PERFECT MARRIAGE IS...๐Ÿ”—๐Ÿ”—✝️

There's no denying that the aspect of the traditional wedding vow is restrictive (to put it mildly), at least when it's taken as literally as the religious text on which it's based.

Ironically, matrimony, at first, wasn't religious or legal — the earliest marriages were essentially casual agreements between families or clans, to establish "peaceful relationships, trading relationships, [and] mutual obligations." Marriage wasn't even officially one of the seven sacraments until 1563. Oh, how times have changed.

Because you have shared in their lives by your friendship and love Linda Sue Alexander and Anthony Joseph Schmitt III together with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Alexander and Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Schmitt Jr. invite you to share the beginning of their life together when they exchange marriage vows on Saturday, the twenty-fourth of November at two o'clock .Blessed Sacrament 534 Oxford Street Rochester, New York

FOREVER.... NO EXCUSES, NO QUITTING.

Ahead of national and international  celebrations of matrimony week, Bishop Robert E Barron said that marriage is “a source of hope for all generations.”

Bishop Barron, chair of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, shared his thoughts in a 6 February statement released by the USCCB ahead of National Marriage Week USA (7-14 February) and World Marriage Day (commemorated on the second Sunday in February, which fell this year on 9 February).

National Marriage Week was launched in 1996 in the United Kingdom by Richard Kane, then director of the national charity Marriage Resource, and his wife, Maria Kane. The observance was adopted in the US in 2002, led by Brent Barlow and Diane Sollee of Smart Marriages, and expanded through the participation of faith communities and marriage advocates.

World Marriage Day was launched in 1981 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by couples participating in Worldwide Marriage Encounter, an international faith-based marriage enrichment ministry founded in 1968 and inspired by Spanish priest Father Gabriel Calvo.

This year’s theme for National Marriage Week is “Source of Hope, Spring of Renewal. Pursue a Lasting Love!”—a motif highlighting the Jubilee Year’s focus on the virtue of hope, said the USCCB statement.

The weeklong commemoration “reminds couples that their commitment is a sign and source of hope for the future and a spring of exemplary love that reverberates through generations,” said Bishop Barron.

“In today’s world, relationships are often viewed as disposable,” he said. But marriage— with its “commitment to fidelity and love,” Bishop Barron added, provides “an antidote to the loneliness and discouragement of many young people today and deserves our prioritization as a church and society.”

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the church teaches that the marriage covenant, “by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love,” has been established by God and ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation and education of children. The church teaches that marriage among the baptized was made a sacrament by Jesus Christ, and the sacrament of matrimony also signifies the union between Christ and his church.

According to an analysis of US Census Bureau data by the Pew Research Centre, the share of adults who were married increased from 50 per cent to 51 per cent from 2019 to 2023. During the same period, the share of adults cohabiting with an unmarried partner also rose from 6 per cent to 7 per cent. In 2023, 42 per cent of US adults were without a partner (married or unmarried), representing a slight decline in what had been a 20-year trend.

The USCCB has assembled a variety of resources for National Marriage Week and for ongoing marriage formation, available in English and in Spanish .
