PUBLISHED 12:34 PM ET Nov. 02, 2020
FAIRPORT, N.Y. — Police have released the identity of a body that was pulled from the Erie Canal over the weekend.
Someone walking along the towpath made the discovery on Sunday.
Police are currently awaiting autopsy results on Michael Parry, 61, of Fairport.
They do not believe foul play was involved in his death.
So, I even helped Mike Parry on the last day he lived. He called me on Saturday afternoon, if I could read a letter from housing authority. He was put on waiting list. I gave him some butane for his lighter.
I sat at the Perinton Park pavilion with Mike & his buddy for about 1hr 15m, talking about World Series, the Bills, The Jets, the weather change , the religious inspirational text messages I sent, him going to Mass at COTA , etc. Last I saw him was at 6pm , as they were walking on canal path to village . I called the Fairport PD & gave them that info.
Mike would have enjoyed today's devotional messgse. π
Horrible way to die, drowning in the dark night of Erie canal. On Halloween. I feel sad for Fairport Mike, but I know I wasn't afraid to be a friend ( Good Samaritan to him?) , there were a few others who did the same. Now, we need to pull together a funeral and burial. The guy hasn't a nickel as he probably used his last loose change to buy his last beers. Plus , not a relative around as his parents came from England in 1967, he always told me the story. ππ
P.S. He called me Long Island Tony, and he did so on the vm message he left on Saturday afternoon. God Bless Mike, RIP.
I remember the last thing I said to Mike was , " Watch out, First time since 1944 there is a full moon on Halloween, plus a clock change, plus pandemic. " We laughed.
Deacon Ron Tocci, knew Michael as a former neighbor, he delivered an elegant poignant eulogy for Fairport Mike.
Father George Heyman celebrated Michael's funeral Mass @ Church of the Assumption in Fairport. Who could have forseen that Fr. George himself would be called home to God in less than six months.
Amen my friend.
Long Island Tony..✌️✌️

Later in November 2020.
I sent an email to Cardinal Joe Tobin thanking him again for his travels from Detroit to Rochester. He came to officiate at my wedding in November, 1984 @ Blessed Sacrament Church, Rochester NY. Joe is one of the most gentlest, kindest men I've ever met in my lifetime. And considerate. π ✝️
I met Mike in July of this year, and talked to him at least once a week after that.
ReplyDeleteThat's nice of you π what would you discuss ? Be well
DeleteThe same to you, I did continue to help Mike, unlike you bearded man. In my ππ you are along with Mike. I treated me as a good friend, not as a casual one.
ReplyDeleteI treated him as a good friend, not as a casual one. And what did you offer except some condescending wordds of false wisdom
