ITS 🌎 WORLD BIPOLAR DAY !!

 Today, March 30th, is
World Bipolar Day
πŸ”—πŸ”—

Impulsive and Risky Behavior ✓✓ BIG TIME, overspent $$$, purchased big ticket items, over extended travel, made impulsive driving trips , infidelity... ------ Most people are aware of this symptom of mania: the shopping spree, the extramarital affair, the motorcycle trip across the country. A study in Neuropsychopharmacology confirms that bipolar patients self-report a HIGH degree of IMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR than the average person.

Hopelessness YES ✓✓
Hopelessness, on the other hand, has no room for optimism—cracks of light that sneak through the darkness

Withdrawal from friends and family. YES isolation ✓✓ in some cases, people with bipolar disorder dissociate, meaning they disconnect from their feelings about the world around them. If that sounds familiar, talk with your doctor about seeking help.

Change in Appetite Decrease lose lots of weight✓✓Hungry much? Not at all? ✓✓Some people pig out on junk food when they are depressed. Others pick at their food with no interest in eating. ✓

Problems with Concentration and Decision-Making. depressed cycle brings problems with memory, concentration, and decision-making, which can impair job performance and cause mistakes. TERRIBLE DECISIONS MADE. Caused personal & work.problems . BIG PROBLEM of Bipolar Disorder ✓✓  Very much so

Thoughts of Suicide. Here's a sobering statistic: While 1% to 5% of the general population is affected by bipolar disorder, the rates of suicide among people with the condition are 20 to 30 times higher than those without it,✓✓ sadly, yes

Restlessness & Agitation. One red flag of bipolar mania is feeling stressed out by sitting still, combined with a sense of anxiety over what will happen if you don't take action immediately (even when there is nothing to take action over.
✓✓ yes.

COMBATING FATIGUE
Getting out of bed in the morning can seem like an impossible task. Fatigue often occurs during times of depression, but it can also be a problem during manic phases, as mania often causes insomnia and restlessness. Fatigue can be one of the most debilitating symptoms of bipolar disorder..

When someone with bipolar disorder feels like they are "MISSING A HOME," ✓✓

It often reflects a strong sense of longing and displacement that can arise during a depressive episode, where feelings of isolation, worthlessness, and a lack of belonging become prominent, making their familiar environment feel distant or unwelcoming, even if they are physically present in their home. YES YES ✓✓

TRIGGERS
The onset of BPAD is often “triggered” by a significant life stressor (i.e., death ☠️☠️ of a family member, DIVORCE 🚫🚫 OR SEPARATION FROM SPOUSE, LEAVING HOME 🏠 for the first time, starting college or a NEW JOB, etc.). These stressors do not cause BPAD, but can trigger the disorder to become active.

Antidepressants are considered safe for use with bipolar depression. Their use must be closely supervised by a psychiatrist. This is because some people with bipolar disorder may be more likely to experience episodes of mania while they are taking antidepressants.

Support for Bipolar Disorder: How You Can Help

Your (family member) patience, love, and understanding can play a significant part in your loved one’s treatment and recovery. Often, just having someone to talk Family to can make all the difference to their outlook and motivation. ✓✓. Spouse was Best friend. 😒

A LACK OF FAMILY SUPPORT can increase the risk of relapse for people with bipolar disorder:

Family stress
Family stress is a major pre relapse, while family support can help reduce it.

One day you will realize that MATERIAL THINGS mean NOTHING.
All that matters is the WELL-BEING of the PEOPLE in YOUR LIFE. - LEON BROWN

Family functioning
Family functioning can be a risk or protective factor for people with bipolar disorder.
Families with lower cohesion and adaptability, and higher conflict, can lead to poor mood symptoms.

I AM SCREAMING FOR HELP
but you don't hear me
Through my cries and pleads
You just watch
You tell me i'm too much
But you don't understand
No one does
All I want is for someone to hear me
To help me
But in the end
It's just me alone

WE ARE FAMILY πŸŽΆ

Be understanding: Try to be understanding and patient, rather than critical or blaming.

Help with goals: Help the person with bipolar disorder pursue activities and goals that are meaningful.

Appreciate progress: Appre progress, no matter how small.
Consider family-focused therapy: Family-focused therapy can help improve family functioning by enhancing communication and problem-solving skills.

I've struggled with bi- polar depression for the past 24 years or so. When I told a therapist that I had thoughts of suicide, he gave me advice that I've always fallen back on.

"If you commit suicide, your daughters will always remember you as the man who murdered their father." Powerful words, but so valued, and I'm still here today.

Like many diseases, de- pression is one that can kill. Having suffered with depression for 30 years, I understand all too well the debilitating and ex- cruciating pain it can cause, and how it can render a person unable”
