The Aftermath of the Blizzard of Buffalo & Who Gets the Needed Help

Image
In the aftermath of a tragic weather event there is usually much Monday morning quarterbacking about how it was handled. Such as the response to Hurricane Katrina by federal & local agencies to the city of New Orleans.  Many New Orleans residents were left homeless, without food and water, and stranded without any transportation. The fire situation was ignored for several days. The overwhelming makeup of those affected were people of color.   The aftermath of the Dec. 23-25th winter storm in the Buffalo area  is that many people of color are stranded, dwindling food supply, impassable streets and lack of electricity. These people reside in the poor sections of Buffalo. The story BUFFALO BLIZZARD In March 2022, a proposal to build a new football stadium for the NFL Buffalo Bills was approved. A total of  $850 million in public funds for this project was approved by the NYS legislature and Erie County officials. Are these funds better served for a NFL f...

Perfect Storm : The Last Goodbye ! !

Image
The Perfect Storm  is one of my all time favorite movies. One reason, is that it was the last movie that we watched with my Mom/Grandma Pat a few days after Christmas 2000 . Yes, we rented it from Blockbuster.  2 1/2 months later, Mom died from leukemia. So, that Christmas was my Mother's last Christmas. I feel fortunate that she & Dad visited us for a couple of days. They both played  board games and dominoes with their granddaughters. All the money in the world cannot buy better presents. CHRISTMAS IS LOVE !  🔗🔗  Thank you God for that visit. 🙏🙏 Hello Mom ? 🔗🔗 Linda Greenlaw 🔗🔗 One of my favorite quotes from the movie is when one of the Coast guard navymen says Gloucester, they're always from ... 🔗🔗 My good friend Larry Maggio & I were discussing the movie, we both had read the book by Sebastian Junger. Great read, goes into more detail about the perils of commercial fishermen. The Final Message  ...

Be More Mindful at Christmas!

Image
BE MORE MINDFUL  🔗 " The most important task of all is simply to be there for those who suffer. Jesus modeled this very well throughout his life, and he calls us to do the same. Listen, care, and don’t walk away . The worst thing one can do is to not stand by a good friend, relative, or other person who is deeply suffering for whatever reason. Pray for your friend and let them know that not only does God love them, but so do YOU. THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS  -link 🔗 These pointers may help you and those you care about to find rest and security in your love and friendship. Remember, aside from loving God first and loving others, the greatest command of Jesus to his followers is to love and care for the marginalized.  Holidays are not just about cookies, presents, trees and fun. The celebration of our faith is about love, sacrifice, care, and real joy based in the love of God. Be blessed." The perfectly decorated Christmas tre...

It's a Tough Time to be Alone

Image
Read article..🔗 Tough Time to be Alone   Yesterday, a fellow parishioner Mrs. Rosemary Adamo in her 90s was waiting for her ride home after 11:30 AM Mass. Through a few degrees of separation (ref: Kevin Bacon game) I had met Mrs. Adamo before, she & her family had moved from Farmingdale to Fairport in the 1970s. Her children all went to St. Kilian's elementary school ,  as did I. Her two sons were among the earliest players on the Farmingdale Hawks. We were chatting with Deacon Dave, finally I asked Mrs. Adamo where she lived, and gave her a ride home. It was a chance meeting, but I didn't let it pass by. Not on the First Sunday of Advent, nor Thanksgiving weekend. A very pleasant lady, we chatted about the link to St. Dominic's HS in Oyster Bay, both her sons played football at St. Dom's. My mom & uncle graduated from St. Dom's. We both knew Bobby White, Jack DiPaola, Farmingdale Meat Market, the busy Conklin Street, Fr. Raphael, Sr. Jean Monica. She wasn...

Marriage mirrors God's Love

Image
Marriage mirrors God's Love ❤️❤️ ! God is totally involved in all aspects of married life. Since He instituted this vocation of husband and wife to live as one flesh and no longer two, they exist no longer for themselves, but for each other; that’s how God designed it.  If He blessed this bond of marriage for a lifetime, no matter how difficult, tiresome, or burdensome a relationship to maintain and to preserve, God will supply what is needed as long as the couple allows God to teach and sustain them with His grace.  Alone by themselves to handle the challenges and trials, they will never survive, but with God on their side, no matter how difficult the married life could be, their love for each other will prevail as they mirror God’s love for others.  Let us thank God for showing us the true meaning of marriage and let us pray for all Catholic marriages and families.  Let us continually ask God to give them the grace they need to discover and fulfill the...
