UBER, TAXES, JUDGING OTHERS
October 17, 2017 UBER, TAXES, JUDGING OTHERS.. Friends, family, Much in the news & social media these days about harassment. But, something else has been bothering me. At a recent meal out in a restaurant , the discussion was about Uber, cost, convience & tipping etc. I said I have had pleasant experiences and that tipping is now allowed. Drivers have always been polite and on time. I also stated that Uber failed to educate their drivers that driving costs, gasoline, maintenance etc are tax deductible , or by the use of a flat mileage expense. I said my recent driver was a young Afro American woman, and she had no idea. I quickly educated her on this, she knew she had to declare income because Uber provides a 1099, but knew nothing about deducting expenses. One in my party scoffed , and said "Yeah, if she even files an income tax return " I said the IRS will follow up on 1099 income statements issued by UBER.
